Facts

Lettering: Since the early 1950's the state of Ohio has required that all buses have the word "STOP" painted on the rear center of the bus in 10" letters and "STATE LAW" in 4" letters. Also the phrase "Emergency Door" must be painted above the rear exit door in 2" letters. The name of the school district or contractor must appear on both sides of the bus as well.

Retired Buses: Ohio school buses that are retired from service must have the warning lights de-activated before being used in another capacity. Also the only buses that are allowed to be "school bus yellow" are school buses. All other buses must be repainted to a different color. An exception is made for church buses as long as all lettering is removed from the bus that identifies it as a school bus and the words "Church Bus" are painted on the vehicle in a visible location.
